Find the Just Right College for You

Archive for December, 2008

I live in NC and I'm interested in psychology and music (I might go into music therapy)
I'm not Mormon like most people in Utah, and I want to get a good traditional college experience too.
Should I seriously consider going there?

Elyse A, The easiest method to find out info is to find a student. You can find some contact information for Utah colleges here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Utah-Colleges-Universities.html Students always to know what's going on better than outsiders since they get to experience the classes and the lifestyle.

I currently have about a 3.0 GPA and I am attending a community college in southern California. I will be at this community college for another year and a half so hopefully I will be able to improve my GPA. I am looking for a University that will accept someone with my current GPA that has a good film program (that is my major) any suggestions?

Long Beach State has an excellent film program. It is impacted but it is because it shows how many people are trying to get in and how selective the school is. The department is very well founded because The college of the Arts there is the largest publicly funded around here. If you can get your gpa up to atleast a 3.3-3.5 you’ll get accepted, just make sure that when you apply to the program you have something to show that will make a good impression.

Bates, FSU, University of Chicago. I want major in music performance, and I do not how know how schools rank when it comes to music performance? This is just after high school, I may go somewhere more serious after, and I hope to. (interested in jazz)

Avoid Bates simply because of the Lewiston-Auburn area where it is located is beyond description. All I saw were condemned buildings, polluted yellow water, and old people crying on their porches. It didn’t feel like the US. Nothing was ever open (we looked around FOREVER for somewhere to eat dinner, and all we found was one Subway that was sold out of many things). Really, really, suffocatingly depressing.

I want to continue and get a 4-year degree and need to know where to get grants/scholarships based on my good grades and financial need. The jobs I want require a bachelors degree.
I want to find out about local grants that may be small but do add up.
Since I graduated with an A.S. in June, if I return to school in June am I considered a transfer student for the fall?

Contact the financial aid office and also the specific degree program you will be going to. There may be grants specific to your profession that the degree program will know about.

If you already have a degree and are coming back, you usually have to apply to be accepted. Contact the admissions office/registrar to find out how they do it.

I need websites so that i may look at my options to better my future.

This website has a list of colleges and universities in Hawaii.

You can check the website of each one and see which ones offer what you are looking for.
