How does University of Southern California rank out of all the colleges in the world?

I know it's a good school…but does anyone have specifics about USC? I already wikipedied it…so I don't need any wikipedia articles…or the USC website. Personal experiences and/or opinions please…such as do you think USC is a good school, why or why not? Thanks!

U.S. News (the premier source for college rankings) ranks USC as 27th in the nation. I'm not too sure about in the world, but…I'm sure if you call up their admissions office, they'll be happy to list out some statistics for you. If you can, take a tour of the college, sit in some classes, talk with the students and professors…. You'll get a much better idea of how it is at the university firsthand!

Unfortunately, I'm not too knowledgeable on USC myself, despite living in SoCal. Some of my friends have applied there–some might even be going there, but that's about it. I DO hear good things in general about it (as opposed to the iffy vibe for SDSU or so–no offense to anyone out there!).

What is the average high school gpa? the atmosphere?

If you want to move to SoCal, why don't you just enroll in one of the community colleges here. After a couple of years, you can always transfer to a local 4 yr school. Even some of the biggies like UCLA or USC.

I am going to be pre-med and I need the best community college I can go to, since that is my only option.
I live in Fullerton, California (close to LA) but I have easy access to housing anywhere in the southern california area, so that's not a problem

Santa Monica College is the best community college i know of. You can transfer all of your credits you receive there to any UC campus.

I am visiting California this Friday and wanted to see which colleges I should tour.

I have seen:
USC
UC Irvine

Passed by UCLA. Going to tour there.

I am thinking of looking at:
Pepperdine
Occidental
UCSD
UC Santa Barbara
University of San Diego

Any other suggestions? I am thinking of majoring in something business or political science related.

Also, I am visiting Northern Cal next month. Which to look there? Berkeley?

Of the colleges you listed, UC Santa Barbara has more of a reputation as a "party" school, and not so much for academics.

In Nor Cal, Berkley is an ultra, ultra liberal school. Otherwise if you can afford it add Stanford, and most of the area U C schools.

Just a suggestion. If you are going for a Baccalaureate Degree, or higher, you can save a ton of money by taking the Freshman & Sophomore years at any of our fine community colleges. Just make sure that all the classes you need will transfer to the U C School you plan to graduate from. Even with paying the out of state tuition rates you will still save a bundle (less student loans to repay).

What Southern California colleges have environmental science masters degree programs?

Looking to go to school in Southern California. I am looking for an "ace in the hole" somewhere in Southern California. Does anyone know any good ones?

Cal State Fullerton has a Masters of Science in Environmental Science. It's affordable too :>

If you're looking for something a little different, Cal State San Bernardino has a Masters of Arts in Environmental Education. Just thought I'd throw that in.

Hey guys,

I’m currently attending college in So Cal and I want to get my MBA. I was wondering which school should I attend for this major? Also by any chance, would someone be able to tell me first hand how it was while obtaining their MBA? Things like how difficult, how long and how fun plague my mind. I’m up for the challenge but I also want to know if it’s worth it. Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.

An MBA takes 2 years, full time. The good ones in SoCal are USC and UCLA. It drops off pretty dramatically from there to schools offering MBAs that may not help your career too much. Be sure to look at jobs and salaries of grads before entering a program. The decent an above programs want 3-5 year of work after undergrad, so you have some time.

What colleges and universities are available in the Southern California area?

I just want somewhere warm and by the beach. Preferably not a school that is incredibly picky about admissions; I am a Oregon transfer student with a 3.7 college GPA.

In San Diego the major universities are UC San Diego, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, and Cal State San Marcos. UCSD is the hardest to get into, then SDSU, and then CSU San Marcos. Not sure about USD, it's private but not very competitive I think, a 3.7 would probably be fine. 3.7 is around the average for students accepted to SDSU. UCSD the average is 4.2. But both of those figures are for incoming freshmen and since you are a transfer student you don't need a GPA that high. A 3.7 GPA should get you into anyone of those schools b/c it's easier for transfer students usually, but since you are coming from OR and not a CA community college it may be a little tougher, but you won't need the really high grades like an incoming freshmen would.

SD is great for college students, I came here six years ago for college (UCSD) and stayed here after graduation. I would recommend living in Pacific Beach. Lots of college kids and young people between 20-30. Great atmoshpere, friendly people, and big party town. Lots of clubs and bars here and lots of parties going on around town. You can drink booze on the beach here too and people are partying on the beach all summer long and even during the rest of the year, but summer is amazing. SD's a great town too, the Gaslamo Quarter is great for more trendy, upscale nightlife with all the nice clubs and bars down there. There is always something going on or some event to go to down here. The weather is the best too, perfect most of the time and summers are amazing; usually 68-70 at night and 75-85 during the day. The ocean water is also the warmest ion the west coast, around 70 during summer.

Universities in Southern California with good film programs?

I currently have about a 3.0 GPA and I am attending a community college in southern California. I will be at this community college for another year and a half so hopefully I will be able to improve my GPA. I am looking for a University that will accept someone with my current GPA that has a good film program (that is my major) any suggestions?

Long Beach State has an excellent film program. It is impacted but it is because it shows how many people are trying to get in and how selective the school is. The department is very well founded because The college of the Arts there is the largest publicly funded around here. If you can get your gpa up to atleast a 3.3-3.5 you’ll get accepted, just make sure that when you apply to the program you have something to show that will make a good impression.
