I live in VT, and I've visted a total of four VT colleges, UVM, Champlain, Saint Michael's and Castleton. And I think I like Castleton the best. I've seen basicly everything about it! And I've even ate there and seen the dorms. Is it a good college as it seems to be?

Castleton is a very good college. It has gotten more difficult to get into in the past few years. They have very good academic programs and they really care about their students' success. As you know, it is a relatively small school, so you get to know people and have lots of opportunities to get involved.

I went to UVM and loved it, but it is big and spread out. You have to be comfortable at a big school. Burlington is a great city with lots to do, but you have to be careful walking around at night. I loved it there.

Champlain is a great school. They have sunk a ton of money into programs and facilities. They have some great programs. Smaller than UVM and nice and close to downtown.

I worked at Saint Michael's and loved it. Small, close community that cares about its students. Excellent academics.

So you have listed 4 excellent colleges. The things to consider now are where do you feel you feel the happiest, feel like you belong, and of course most people have to compare financial aid award letters and make sure they can afford the school. You need to understand how loan paybacks work, etc…..

We're lucky in VT to have such great colleges. You'll do great.

I'm a sophomore in high school and recently recieved a letter from Champlain College in Vermont. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do and have decided that Marine Biology is right for me. However, Champlain does not offer courses in Marine Biology so does anyone happen to know of a good college for an aspiring marine biologist? All insight is greatly appreciated.

I was in your position when I was a sophomore. I had decided I wanted to be a marine biologist but had no idea where to go. I am currently a senior at the University of Washington, not studying marine biology exactly, but fisheries sciences. It is the top rated fisheries sciences school in the country. Check it out, depending on what you want to do within the marine biology field, it could be the perfect place, but it might not be right for you. What I can tell you is the professors are great (and many are internationally known and recognized), and the TA's are really easy to talk to.

oh yeah and the story is located in Vermont no i do not want the colleges to be real.and they are for the positions of QB and RB

I want to experience different places and different things, and I'm currently thinking about transferring from Suffolk, in Boston, to somewhere in Colorado. I also want to try going to school in California, Vermont, and a few other places. Is it bad to do a lot of transferring?

It does not look good on an academic record when you've gone to a half-dozen schools. It speaks to a number of issues, none of which are highly desirable. It's great that you want to "experience different places and different things." Just don't tie your education up in that. Pick a school that suits you and go to that school. In the mean time, travel, work summers here or there, and take time after graduation to explore. It's not at all wise to transfer every term or so. The reasons are many, the least of which is you'll never be able to meet the in-residence requirement of any one school to be eligible to graduate.

I'm a college student (not studying math, not surprisingly), and I'm looking for help in deciding whether or not I can afford to make this trip to see my brother.

Additional details:

Trip = 250 miles
Mpg = 35
Tank Capacity = 12 gallons
Cost/Gallon = $4 (average)

About how much will the trip cost one way?

I appreciate the help immensely. Thanks.
-Nick B

250/35 = 7.14
7.14 x $4 = $28.50
