I currently have about a 3.0 GPA and I am attending a community college in southern California. I will be at this community college for another year and a half so hopefully I will be able to improve my GPA. I am looking for a University that will accept someone with my current GPA that has a good film program (that is my major) any suggestions?
Long Beach State has an excellent film program. It is impacted but it is because it shows how many people are trying to get in and how selective the school is. The department is very well founded because The college of the Arts there is the largest publicly funded around here. If you can get your gpa up to atleast a 3.3-3.5 you’ll get accepted, just make sure that when you apply to the program you have something to show that will make a good impression.

USC the one only school for film

The University of Southern California has one of the very best film schools in the nation. But their cinema school is extremely competitive and really hard to get into. I don’t think you’ll get in with a 3.0 GPA. It might help if you’ve produced a lot of creative work to include with your application as maybe they’ll be really impressed with your work.
Other than that, I don’t know any other universities in the southern California region.

There is only one that you need to know: UCLA
Everything else is just average. Aim for UCLA (which requires to bring your GPA up a lot) because the film program there is the best (and its UCLA…)

There are several great University level film programs available in Southern California. USC, UCLA, AFI, and Art Center are just a few.
For a complete list of schools in and around Los Angeles as well as the most COMPLETE WORLDWIDE list of filmschools, visit http://www.whatireallywanttodo.com and click on the “Filmschools” link at the top.
There you’ll find contact information for each. Take the time to research the programs that interest you most and then contact each school and ask very specific questions about what you are looking for in terms of an education. Some schools are better at theory while others concentrate more on production. Just know that most schools will NOT truly prepare you to build a real career in the professional industry. The only way to do that is to understand how the actual industry works on a day to day basis.
