Utah did finish the season undefeated and beat a very good Alabama team (my team) but they don’t deserve a National Title shot. If they want a shot they need to play quality opponents during the regular season and win against them.
You can’t play UNLV, Weber State, Wyoming, CSU, New Mexico and San Diego State and expect to play for the National Title. Until Utah plays quality opponents and wins 12 games a year playing those teams, then they have no buisness in the National Title game.

Utah is the #1 team in the country! End of story. I can’t handle one more person say they don’t deserve it because they don’t play in a big conference. The MWC is better than The Pac-10 and The Big-10 and The ACC and The Big-East. Why do you have to play in a better conference if you can beat a team that went undefeated in the SEC regular season? Alabama went 12-0 in The SEC and Utah just beat the snot out of them. Case closed. Utah is better than USC, Texas, Florida and Oklahoma!

Utah beat the team that beat USC. They also beat USC the last time the two teams played back in ‘01.

Well, why don’t Florida and Oklahoma play Utah head to head? They could schedule home and home with Utah but they don’t because they are afraid of loosing to the Utes.
In the last 6 seasons, Utah is 13-4 against BCS conference opponents. That’s a .764 winning percentage. That’s not bad.

I’m tired of “experts” saying Bama played poorly. Could it be that the Tide played good but the Utes just played a near flawless game. The AP must give them # 1. 13-0 record, the best & would still have been 13-0 facing any conference. Enough excuses for Alabama!

It is much less that they played horrible, and much more that Utah was the better team. I watched the game….Utah controlled the game. It was no fluke.
And the mantra that “such and such team could hang in the demanding SEC or Big 12″ is just old and tired. There is nothing in the DNA of those conferences that makes them superior to any great team from the Big 10, Pac 10, ACC or Mountain West. Otherwise they would 100% in non-conference games against allegedly “inferior” competition.

For all you people saying Utah would’nt be able to beat Oklahoma or Forida, that’s exactly what everyone was saying about us not being able to beat Alabama and how we were gonna get owned, and look what we did. I have total confindence in the Utes and think they could totally take on either of the teams and come out on top.

No actually I go for the Pac-10. Im an SC fan. Even though the Pac-10 was bad this year we still went 5-0 in bowl games. Like Pete caroll said, there is no team that can compete with USC. Fight ON!!!!

Alabama also played terrible last night, as they had absolutely nothing to gain from that game. And as much as Whittingham knows about Meyer, Meyer knows just as much about his tactics.
Face it, though, Florida or Oklahoma would still beat Utah. It might be close, but I don’t think Utah could survive year after year by playing in a conference like the SEC or Big 12.
