College Football Hawaii Bowl Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Hawaii Warriors (-1 1/2) Wednesday December 24th (8PM ET) (ESPN)
There is a lot of talk why Notre Dame is in Hawaii for a bowl game on Christmas Eve. Here is the truth. Fighting Irish head coach Charlie Weis is trying to recruit the nations top linebacker prospect that happens to play his high school football in Hawaii. So Notre Dame needs a good effort here and will bring focus to this game. The Notre Dame captains have spoke and of all the bowl games Notre Dame was eligible to play in they are excited about the 6 days they will spend in great weather while the rest of the nation is battling with freezing weather. Notre Dames defense has improved this season. They do a much better job of pursing ball carriers and tackling than last years squad. Hawaii does not possess the explosive offense we saw with last years Sugar Bowl team. QB Colt Brennan and 4 of their wide receivers from last years squad ran out of eligibility. The Warriors lost 3 games to defensive minded teams in Cincinnati and San Jose St at home and Oregon St on the road. An awful loss was a 34-7 defeat at Utah St. Take the best defense in this game and that belongs with the Fighting Irish who will be poised to finish the year at 7-6. Take Notre Dame +1 1/2.

Tony: OK now its time for Brigida’s Chick Pick. You are looking at Utah Utes at Michigan Wolverines Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM EST to be televised regionally by ABC with the Michigan Wolverines favored by 3.
Brigida: Michigan has always been a top program. They attract good recruits and rebuild talent. The defense rebounded well after the first two games of last season. They put themselves in position for a Rose Bowl berth at the end of the season with a win against Ohio St. In the end they made it to a New Year’s Day bowl game and beat Florida. Now a lot of those players are gone but the program showed it could handle adversity and still come away with a respectable season. Rich Rodriguez is the new coach and he will energize this program and bring out the best from his players like he did at West Virginia. Utah is not from a major conference and lost 3 road games a year ago including a 27-0 defeat at UNLV. They also gave up 32 points to Navy in their Bowl game. Michigan behind their storied tradition and reputation to reload talent is my chick pick here. Take Michigan minue 3.

College Football BYU Cougers at Utah Utes (-7.5) (6PM ET) (The Mountain)

TCU played Utah a few weeks back and lost in the closing seconds at Utah . TCU had great field position most of the game and their kicking game failed them along with quarterback Andy Dalton. Senior quarterback Max Hall will be the difference in this game to keep the Cougars within a touchdown of Utah. Hall is hitting on over 70% of his passes for nearly 9 yards per completion. Also BYU has an accurate kicker who has made his last 6. BYU has some beef in their backfield with Unga and Vakapuna who are tough to bring down and fight very hard for yardage. BYUs offensive line sports 4 seniors who are facing an undersized Utah defensive line, which helps supports our cause for the underdog in this rivalry game. Take the points here. Take BYU +7 ½.

College Football Saturday Utah Utes @ Michigan Wolverines (-3) (3:30PM ET) (ABC)

The Rich Rodriguez era begins at Michigan as they host the Utah Utes with Michigan only a 3-point favorite. Yes Utah returns a senior quarterback and plenty of starters on offense but they did lose 3 road games last year to Oregon St, UNLV and BYU and gave up 32 points to Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl. Other than BYU the Mountain West Conference was terrible last year. Michigan is a program that promotes many players into the NFL and constantly competes for a Rose Bowl berth. Michigan returns 7 starters on defense that played well late last season. Heck they only gave up 14 points to Ohio St. I think the bigger question here is how will the Utah defense handle the spread offense? Navy run up and down this club in their bowl game last year. I like the fact that there has been a fierce competition at quarterback and at running back for Michigan. The competitive practices will translate to effectiveness come game time. Take Michigan –3.

College Football Oregon St Beavers at Utah Utes (-12 ½) (9PM ET) (Versus)

Oregon St is coming off a huge upset against USC last week. The Beavers began the season with 2 losses and then showed improvement on the defensive end and offensive line against Hawaii and USC. There may be some emotional let down here but 12 ½ points is way too many to give the Beavers. Oregon St will have the speed advantage and their front 7 as seen last week has improved giving up just 86 yards on the ground against the Trojans. This is a quick turnaround for the Utes having played on Saturday and wheeling back here for a Thursday night game. This game comes down to the Beavers quickness and the fact they are now executing at a level Mike Riley teams are accustomed to at Oregon St. The Beavers offensive line is jelling and will open up holes for Jacquizz Rodgers. Thats the key to keep the chains moving at Utah and the Beavers offensive line will help keep the Utes off the field. No knock on Utah they are a quality team but Oregon St will stay competitive with them. Play Oregon St +12 ½.
